Mark Ainscough

Head of Additive Manufacturing

What is your background?

I began my career in sales, working on technical sales of vehicle telematics. I sold these systems mainly to the heavy goods industry and the fleets associated with a wide range of the major private & public companies with large vehicle count across the UK. Within this role, I gained a deep technical understanding across both the hardware and software elements of these systems, working with the customers to demonstrate the major benefits and savings telematics can have across their business. I decided to pursue a career in technical recruitment in 2011 utilising my extensive software knowledge to help technology companies across the UK attract and retain top software talent. I joined Kensington Consulting in 2014, initially recruiting Engineering professionals across multiple verticals in the UK. Shortly after, Kensington Additive was born, and I now lead the team here in providing headhunting services to the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) industry globally. I love to help companies solve problems and to play a part in building the best teams within their business to drive innovation across this exciting industry.

What do you do when not working?

Outside of work I love to spend time with my wife and son doing various activities on the weekend. I have a number of hobbies, but right now a slight obsession with Golf! If I have some spare time, you will find me hacking away down the local course with friends and generally having a good time!

Are there any people or books that have inspired you?

Winston Churchill – “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts."

What’s your favourite thing about your job at Kensingtons?

I enjoy working within the fast-paced AM sector, speaking to people from all walks of life across the world on a daily basis. The journey for Additive Manufacturing is still relatively early and to be a part of advancing this industry through talent is exciting. Oh, I suppose the team is okay too! 😃

What are your 3 core values?

Loyalty, Efficiency & Commitment

What advice would you give to a client hiring in AM?

Focus on not just technical skills but attitude and be open to people who are quick learners and driven. The AM market is ever-evolving and having people on the team who are flexible and adaptable to this fast-paced industry is key to success. I would also advise checking out our 2-way video interviewing process!

What advice would you give to a candidate looking for opportunities in AM?

The AM industry is always looking for top talent and people who can offer value to advancing this sector. Focus on sharpening up the resume to highlight your key selling points and career history. Complement the resume with a tailored cover letter for each role you apply for. This could be the difference between an interview or not. Keep positive, 2020 was a tough year but things are slowly beginning to pick up!
